The Second Amendment does not grant us the right to keep and bear arms. It is universally recognized in every culture throughout history that, as human beings, we have the natural right to defend ourselves from an assailant. The Declaration of Independence states that “all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness... to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men.”
The Second Amendment recognizes this individual right and restricts the government from interfering with this right. It is only when an individual becomes an aggressor rather than a defender that the government has the right and obligation to intervene. If the anti-gun marchers were honest in their intentions, they would be on our side! We have to use calm reasoning to persuade them, not over heated arguments.
